Graduated from Hamilton High School in Trenton, NJ 1945.

Served in U.S. Army June 1945 to February 1947.

Trained in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and served in Germany from February 1946 to February 1947. Went from Infantry training to Quartermaster Company to Chaplain’s Assistant - Rank: Corporal.

Was Director of Trenton Youth For Christ, Trenton NJ - 1947-48 while employed variously.

• Eastern Baptist College in St. Davids, PA – 1950-53 – BA Degree

Married in 1950 – Isabel Claire Cox at the West Trenton Presbyterian Church.

Became Assistant to the Minister at The Bethany Temple Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia - 1953-1956 - Rev. Robert Beach Cunningham, Minister.

Attended Reformed Episcopal Theological Seminary in Philadelphia -1953-55, and Temple University School of Theology 1955-56 – S.T.B. Degree.

Ordained by the United Presbyterian Church in the USA in 1956.

Became  Minister of the Bethany Temple Presbyterian Church 1956-1960. 

Appointed Director of Admissions at Eastern Baptist College, St. Davids, PA    1960-1976, then also Director of Financial Aid.

Dean of Christian Life1976-1980.

Dean of Admissions 1980-1983.

Assistant to the President.1983-1990.

Earned MA Degree in Education at Villanova University,Villanova, PA in 1967.

Earned the Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary,Philadelphia  in 1978.

Served as Moderator of the Philadelphia Presbytery - Presbyterian Church in the USA in 1978.   

Authored the biography, John Wanamaker:King of Merchants in 1993.

Opened and managed The Used Book Store in Wayne, PA – 2000-2003.

Took flying lessons at age 79, learned to fly a fixed-wing plane at 81 and a helicopter at age 82. Last flew with instructor in Cessna 172 on January 5, 2013 to celebrate my 86th birthday in December.

Three children:

• Elizabeth Ann - September 22, 1956 - Married – James Mellon - June 10, 1978
• Barbara Jean – April 3, 1958 - Married - William Marshall – July 15, 2000
• Beverly Sue – July 24, 1960 -  Married - John Vesper – August 15, 1981

Nine grandchildren:

 - James Lawrence Mellon, Jr. (Ellie); Lisa Mellon; Jessica Marie Mellon Robinson (Andrew); Christopher Mellon (Brie); Debbie Leigh Mellon Cross (Benjamin); William Vesper (Alexis); John Vesper (Claire); Kate Louise Vesper Mattero (Nicholas Anthony); and Sarah Vesper Newton (Jeffrey)..
